Senator Bradford Applauds Compton College Initial Accreditation

June 12, 2017

On June 7 the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) granted initial accreditation status to Compton Community College during its June 7, 2017 meeting.

“Interim accreditation is an important milestone toward full accreditation of Compton College. I applaud the efforts of Compton College President, Keith Curry, who led the college through the rigorous process,” said Bradford.

“Our community cannot be deprived of education opportunities to better themselves,” said Bradford.  Bradford added, “This action honors the vision I share with the late-Mervyn Dymally to build strength in our community through education.”  Dymally worked tirelessly to provide educational opportunities to diverse communities with his support for Compton College as well as the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science in Carson.

“I truly appreciate the support of Senator Bradford from when he was in Assembly to now,” said President Curry.

In 2006 ACCJC withdrew Compton College’s accreditation due to insolvency and inability to meet accreditation standards. This action left the community without a college. AB 318 (Dymally, 2006) allowed accredited courses at Compton College through a partnership with El Camino Community College District. As a result, Compton College is currently known as the El Camino Community College Compton Center (ECC Compton Center).

Compton Community College District makes educational services available to nearly 300,000 local residents.
