Senator Bradford celebrated Earth Day with the community of Hawthorne.
This annual event included bicycle giveaways, food, entertainment and a children's craft booth. Hundreds of community members gathered to celebrate and participate in Service Provider Fair and Earth Day. The fair featured various service provider booths, emergency preparedness information and promotional giveaways.
Senator Bradford helped give bikes away and also presented Councilwoman English with a Certificate of recognition for her leadership in planning and orchestrating the 8th Annual Service Provider Fair.
The city of Carson and the Carson Veterans Affairs Commission, along with Senator Bradford paid tribute to the fallen soldiers and honored war veterans still living in the city this included tolling of the bells.
Senator Bradford emphatically reminded attendees to be thankful for the sacrifices our veterans have made for us to live freely and safely.

The USS Battleship Iowa, located in San Pedro, and the only decommissioned WWII battleship on the US west coast honored our fallen patriots during their Memorial Day Ceremonies on Saturday, May 27th.
Senator Bradford joined with Congresswoman Nanette Barragan and USS Iowa personnel in paying tribute to those who served in the past and the present. A special guest honoree, Mr. Nelson Mitchell, 97 is the oldest living African American survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
A proud graduate of Langston University, Adolf served in the United States Army, worked for the U.S. Postal Service, and served families in Los Angeles County as a social worker before being motivated to go into the restaurant business. His nearly 40-year reign as the "King of Soul" not only by putting Los Angeles on the map as a mecca for soul food and creating over 1,000 full and part-time jobs, but also by giving back to his employees through countless scholarships and providing generous support for non-profit organizations in greater Los Angeles.

Apply for the African-American Leaders Tomorrow Conference Sponsored by The California Legislative Black Caucus
The African-American Leaders for Tomorrow (AALT) Program is a four-day long residential summer program that is held on the campus of California State University Dominquez Hills (CSUDH). Ninety students are hand selected to receive leadership training and attend workshops on topics such as college experience, career development and civic engagement. Students will be housed on the campus of CSUDH. Meals, program materials, as well as transportation during the conference will be provided at no cost to the participants. For students living outside of Los Angeles County, transportation to the conference will also be provided.

SB 189: Workers' compensation: definition of employee Decreases the ownership threshold for corporate officers and owners from 15% to 10%, reducing the number of small business that would be required to purchase workers comp insurance when the owners are employees of the business, while still ensuring that non-owner workers are being properly covered in case of an occupational injury.
SB 277: Land use: zoning regulations Allows local governments to adopt ordinances that would require as a condition of the development of residential rental units a certain percentage of affordable rental units.
SB 345: Law enforcement agencies: public records Requires state and local law enforcement agencies to post their manuals and policies which are not exempt from disclosure online.
SB 488: Insurers: women, minority, disabled veteran, veteran, and LGBT business enterprises: procurement and board diversity Codifies the successful supplier diversity and governing board diversity initiatives of the California Department of Insurance. SB 488 adds LGBT-owned and veteran-owned businesses; extends the sunset through 2025.
SB 491: Civil rights: discrimination: enforcement Directs the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing to establish an advisory committee to explore and develop processes to allow county and city governments to enforce the employment provisions of the California Fair Employment and Housing Act which aim to prevent discrimination against certain protected groups.
SB 620: Firearms: crimes: enhancements Allows a court, in the interest of justice and at the time of sentencing to strike a sentence enhancement for using or discharging a firearm when a person is convicted for committing a felony.
