Assistance for Special Needs Students

California requires that school districts continue to provide special education services to students with disabilities as required by federal law. The pandemic has forced school closures but, all students with disabilities are entitled to a free and appropriate education. Below you will find resources that will help you navigate issues you may encourter.

Listed are resource:

  • California Department of Education  Information and resources to serve the unique needs of persons with disabilities so that each person will meet or exceed high standards of achievement in academic and nonacademic skills, Click here for Special Education Resources.
  • SIERF-  Sensory Integration Education and Research Foundation Is here to assist parents, educators, medical professionals, peace officers and the public to understand children and adults with special needs.
  • SIERF provides a forum for special needs parents and caregivers with information and resources. Join the forum on September 26th at 11:00 a.m. email admin@sierf.org, and they will send you a link to register.
  • Pediatric therpy network- Leading the way in helping children, families, and communities reach full capabilities through innovative therapy, education, and research programs.
  • RespectAbility.org, a nonprofit that advocates for individuals with disabilities, has released a free guide to help families navigate distance learning. “Virtual Education & Students With Disabilities Resource Guide” is available at respectability.org/virtual-education.
  • The website also includes a resource center of other links for parents who find themselves pressed into the role of teacher this upcoming school year.
