State Senator Laura Richardson Provides News and Updates on Southern California Wildfires
LOS ANGELES, California – January 8, 2025 – As the Southern California wildfires continue to ravage the Pacific Palisades and Altadena area communities, State Senator Laura Richardson reassures the public that California boasts some of the best-trained first responders in the world and that resources are being mobilized to support those affected by the fires.
Drawing on her experience as the former Chairwoman of the U.S. Congressional Subcommittee on Emergency Communications, Preparedness, and Response, Senator Richardson remains in close contact with local authorities and is actively monitoring the situation.
“I want to first thank the brave men and women who have responded to this unfortunate natural disaster. Our firefighters, law enforcement, and medical teams are well-prepared for such emergencies and will have the needed resources to continue their work,” said Senator Richardson.
Additional support crews from Oregon and Washington state, along with specialty teams from across the country, are joining local emergency operation crews to help battle the blazes. "This outside assistance helps maintain proper staffing levels of local emergency agencies to tend to other matters," added Senator Richardson.
The Senator seeks the public’s assistance in reporting any price gouging related to supplies and encourages them to file a report. “I understand that some take advantage of others in their time of need and hike up pricing on goods and services. This is not only wrong but may be illegal,” said Senator Richardson. “Anyone who suspects price gouging should contact the Office of the California Attorney General at (800) 952-5225, or LA County’s Department of Consumer Affairs at (800) 593-8222.”
Senator Richardson also noted, “Anyone affected by the fires and who is having difficulties in securing resources or temporary shelter is encouraged to connect with South Bay hotels/motels and community organizations to request assistance.” Adding, “My District office is here to help.”
Individuals in need of support can contact the following South Bay area Chambers of Commerce: Carson Chamber of Commerce (310) 217-4590, Inglewood Chamber of Commerce (310) 677-1121, San Pedro Chamber of Commerce (310) 832-7272.
