
State Senator Richardson Selected to Assist State Commission in Reviewing Financial Standing and Security
SACRAMENTO, California – March 3, 2025 – Recently appointed by the Senate President Pro Tempore as Assistant Majority Whip in the State Senate, Senator Laura Richardson (D-SD35) has been selected by the Senate Rules Committee to serve as a member of the California Debt and Investment Advisory Commission. This nine-member commission helps state and local government officials manage and plan public debt and investments. They also provide educational materials and collect and analyze data on these topics.
“I am honored to be chosen to serve on the commission and know that transparency and accountability are paramount when dealing with public funds,” said Senator Richardson. “Whether it is a bond measure at the local level or the state treasurer’s office selling debt bonds - oversight, education, and analysis are vital in maintaining high standards and the public’s trust.”
Additionally, the commission conducts studies to improve the sale and servicing of state and local debts, while suggesting ways to reduce costs of debt and improve credit ratings.
The nine-member commission consists of the State Treasurer, the Governor or the Director of Finance, the State Controller, two local government finance officials, two Assembly Members, and two State Senators.
