CA State Senator Laura Richardson Takes On Caltrans Regarding Upcoming Vincent Thomas Bridge Closure

SACRAMENTO, California – (March 13, 20250 – As Budget Sub-Committee Chair on Transportation, Senator Laura Richardson (D-South Bay) questioned CalTrans Director Tony Tavares on the department’s projected one year closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro, California.

“For more than a year, the Wilmington and San Pedro Neighborhood Councils have worked to have CalTrans create a mitigation plan dealing with the traffic congestion, road damage, and safety concerns that are imminent with the upcoming closure of the Vincent Thomas Bridge.” Said Senator Richardson. “Today, I put on the record with the Director, that CalTrans cannot close the major thoroughfare bridge without relief to our community. As the representative of the 35th District, and member of the Senate Transportation Committee, I will advocate unwaveringly for our residents.”

The Vincent Thomas Bridge is located in San Pedro, California, supports the goods movement of the largest port complex in the United States (San Pedro Port Complex / Port of Los Angeles) and serves as the connector for residents, businesses, and visitors of the City of Los Angeles and the City of Long Beach averaging 14,000 vehicles and trucks per day.
