FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 2, 2017

SACRAMENTO – Today, Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 618 authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena). SB 618 requires the integrated resource plans (IRPs) of all load-serving entities, which include investor-owned utilities (IOUs), electric service providers (ESPs), and community choice aggregators (CCAs), to contribute to a diverse and balanced portfolio of resources.

“SB 618 makes a simple, but necessary change in current law, ensuring that we can use clean energy in a way that keeps the lights on and the electricity affordable for our constituents, without shifting costs from one entity’s customers to another,” said Senator Bradford.

The language included in SB 618 is existing law in the Public Utilities Code, but is not currently in the new section of code added by SB 350, the Clean Energy and Pollution Act of 2015. This bill provides clarity and consistency in our state law to help ensure a reliable electricity supply, meet our state’s greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets and prevent cost-shifting among load-serving entities.
