Senator Steven Bradford hosted a Back to School Resource Fair and School Supply Giveaway and distributed over 650 backpacks stuffed with vital school supplies to students returning to school this year. The Senator’s Back to School Resource Fair, held at California State University, Dominguez Hills’ beautiful campus also featured over 30 vendors and was made possible by charitable donations from a wide variety of sponsors.

Senator Bradford joined in the dedication and celebration of the return of Bruce’s Beach. The morning started off with the unveiling of a new plaque that depicts the true history of Bruce’s Beach. The Senator joined Supervisor Holly Mitchell, Supervisor Janice Hahn, Kavon Ward, Anthony Bruce, Chief Duane “Yellow Feather” Shepard, former Manhattan Beach Mayor Mitch Ward and others to celebrate the the return of the beach-front property that was years in the making.

Planned Parenthood Advocacy Project LA hosted an evening of politics and cocktails joined by elected and newly elected officials, business and community leaders. Sue Dunlap, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood LA, spoke about how we all need to work together and create relationships, especially between the local and state government to prepare for the possible overturn of Roe v. Wade. Sue spoke on the importance of Planned Parenthood LA as a safe haven for not only surrounding states but the entire nation.

This morning the Senator took a tour of the USC campus and the USC Athletics facilities, led by Athletic Director Mike Bohn, VP of University Government Relations Martha Escutia, and SVP of University relations Sam Garrison. The tour started at Heritage Hall which houses the University’s athletic department. Next he visited the Little Galen Dining Hall where student athletes are able to receive 3 meals a day. Next door was the John McKay Center of Academic Services where they serve 600 students with their academic needs with over 80 tutors and advisors, and touted a 92% graduation rate.

The Los Angeles Maritime Institute held their 30th Anniversary ribbon cutting ceremony in San Pedro. Senator Bradford attended and addressed the attendees and presented a certificate to celebrate the momentous occasion. The event was hosted by the Institute i in conjunction with the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce. In attendance were staff of the museum along with San Pedro Chamber members and Nancy Richardson, founder of Topsail Youth Program, who has sailed on every ocean in the world.

El Camino College hosted a “Community Walk Against Hate” event at their campus this morning in response to the ongoing concerns about local racially-motivated hate crimes against the community, particularly AAPI. Senator Bradford gave welcoming remarks as well as presented a certificate to aging Lee, the founder of ‘Seniors Fight Back’. Unified by the motto “Hate Has No Home Here” Senator Bradford walked (and even led the charge) alongside elected officials Mayor Furey, Asm. Maratsuchi and Congress Waters, with trustee members, faculty, students, and community members.

Senator Bradford attended the 39th Annual MLK Parade hosted by the City of Gardena. This event was a combination of the City of Gardena’s 49th annual citywide essay contest, Black History Month Afternoon in the Park, 39th Annual MLK parade and the Battle of the Bands all combined in one eventful day. Senator Bradford served as the Keynote Speaker and spoke about the importance of acknowledging Black History Month and reflecting on the past to help us guide us to a better future.

Senator Steven Bradford partnered with the Los Angeles Southwest College Foundation and the Church of Latter-day Saints, distributed over one thousand turkeys, beef roasts, and gift cards to families in need.  Senator Bradford continued this annual tradition which he started in Gardena as a City Councilmember and then as a State Assemblymember.
