USC Campus Tour

Monday, April 11 2022

This morning the Senator took a tour of the USC campus and the USC Athletics facilities, led by Athletic Director Mike Bohn, VP of University Government Relations Martha Escutia, and SVP of University relations Sam Garrison. The tour started at Heritage Hall which houses the University’s athletic department. Next he visited the Little Galen Dining Hall where student athletes are able to receive 3 meals a day. Next door was the John McKay Center of Academic Services where they serve 600 students with their academic needs with over 80 tutors and advisors, and touted a 92% graduation rate. The Senator also met Dr. Robin Scholefield’s team, the largest sports psychology staff in college athletics. The group finished at the Athletic Medicine Training room and facility. He met USC QB Mo Hasan, who is recovering from an injury. Mo expressed his desire to also be in politics like the Senator. During the tour it was clear USC was a gold standard when it comes to athletics and its services to student athletes,  however the Senator acknowledged that they are an exception to the rule and if all campuses were like USC then they wouldn’t have an issue and the need for the College Athlete Race and Gender Equity Act.
