SACRAMENTO – Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) issued the following statement on the selection of Laphonza Butler to fill the seat of the late U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein:

"I offer my congratulations to Laphonza Butler. I have no doubt she will capably serve the people of California with honor. Over the course of her career, she has distinguished herself as a values-driven leader who has dedicated herself to advancing the rights of women and workers.  For more than a decade, I have had the privilege of working with her and I know that, during her tenure, she will be a strong voice who will bring a valuable and needed perspective to our nation’s most important policy matters.

"I appreciate Governor Newsom for keeping his pledge to appoint a Black woman to this important seat, however, I am disappointed that Representative Barbara Lee was not selected. During her decades of elected service in Congress, Barbara Lee has been a leader who is simply unmatched in her values, vision and lived experiences."
