Senator Bradford issues statement on the passing of former Assemblywoman Cindy Montañez:

State Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) issued the following statement on the passing of former Assemblywoman Cindy Montañez:

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a dear friend, a great elected leader and a trailblazer. Former Assemblywoman Cindy Montañez served the people of San Fernando, Los Angeles and California in many capacities. During her career, she shattered glass ceilings serving as the youngest woman elected to the San Fernando City Council and the second youngest woman elected to the State Assembly. She was also the first Latina and first Democratic woman to serve as Chair of the Assembly Rules Committee.

“Montañez’s cared deeply about the environment and was a strong advocate through her later work as the CEO of TreePeople. Her enduring commitment will inspire others to take similar actions to protect the environment. The impact of her life’s work will truly be felt for generations to come.

"I will miss her wonderful smile that lit up any room and her love for music. I have no doubt she is dancing in heaven. She handled her many health challenges with grace and style never asking why me? She was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her. Rest in power, my friend."

“Me entristece profundamente enterarme del fallecimiento de una amiga querida, una gran líder electa y una pionera. La ex Asambleísta Cindy Montañez sirvió al pueblo de San Fernando, Los Ángeles y California en muchas capacidades. Durante su carrera, rompió barreras al ser la mujer más joven elegida para al Concejo Municipal de San Fernando y la segunda mujer más joven elegida a la Asamblea Estatal. También la primera mujer Latina y Demócrata en ocupar el cargo de Presidenta del Comité de Normas de la Asamblea.

“Montañez se preocupó profundamente por el medio ambiente y fue una firme defensora en su trabajo posterior como directora ejecutiva (CEO) de TreePeople. Su compromiso duradero inspirará a otros a tomar medidas similares para proteger el medio ambiente. El impacto del trabajo de su vida realmente se sentirá en las generaciones venideras.
