1,200 families served during Senator Bradford’s annual turkey giveaway

TORRANCE, CA ­– 1,200 local families received free turkeys and groceries to make their Thanksgiving special. Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), in partnership with El Camino College, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and U.S.VETS Inglewood distributed  1200 turkeys and pork roasts, bags of groceries, and gift cards to families in need this holiday season. Senator Bradford began this annual tradition when he served on the Gardena City Council and has continued it during his service in the State Assembly and now as a member of the State Senate.

“This incredible community event grows bigger and more important every year,” said Senator Bradford. “Seeing the faces of the people receiving these turkeys gives me great hope that these meals will not only feed our community but act as the centerpiece of families gathering to give thanks for each other’s support, faith and love. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue to represent our communities in the state capitol and this turkey giveaway is one of my favorite ways to show my appreciation. We could not do this without all of our sponsors and volunteers who care deeply about serving and helping others. An event of this scale is only possible because of them. I am enormously grateful to each of them.”

This drive-thru event, held on November 21, was made a reality by volunteers and sponsors from Senate District 35 and the surrounding area including: Lawndale Councilmember Pat Kearney, Gardena Councilmembers Paulette Francis and Wanda Love, Torrance Councilmember Bridgett Lewis, U.S.Vets Inglewood, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Phillips 66 Black Employee Network, Torrance Refinery, AAA, Republic Services, Starbucks, Enterprise, LA County Probation Department, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Sigma Pi Omega Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta, Stiiizy, Crystal Stairs, Let’s Be Whole, National Association of University Women, and the AMAAD Institute.

“Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the things we are most grateful for in life. Thank you again to all the participants who stopped by and to El Camino College for hosting our event this year,” said Bradford.

1,200 familias atendidas durante la entrega anual de pavo del Senador Bradford

TORRANCE, CA ¬– 1200 familias locales recibieron pavos y comestibles gratis para que su Día de Acción de Gracias fuera especial. El Senador Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), en asociación con El Camino College, la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días y U.S.VETS Inglewood, distribuyeron 1,200 pavos y cerdo asados, bolsas de comestibles y tarjetas de regalo a familias necesitadas esta temporada de vacaciones. El Senador Bradford comenzó esta tradición anual cuando se desempeñó en el Concejo Municipal de Gardena y la continuó durante su servicio en la Asamblea Estatal y ahora como miembro del Senado Estatal.

"Este increíble evento comunitario crece y se vuelve más importante cada año", dijo el Senador Bradford. "Ver los rostros de las personas que reciben estos pavos me da una gran esperanza de que estas comidas no solo alimentarán a nuestra comunidad, sino que también serán el centro de reunión de familias para agradecer el apoyo, la fe y el amor de los demás. Estoy agradecido por la oportunidad de continuar representando a nuestras comunidades en el capitolio estatal y esta entrega de pavos es una de mis formas favoritas de mostrar mi agradecimiento. No podríamos hacer esto sin todos nuestros patrocinadores y voluntarios que se preocupan profundamente por servir y ayudar a los demás. Un evento de esta magnitud solo es posible gracias a ellos. Estoy enormemente agradecido con cada uno de ellos".

Este evento de autoservicio, realizado el 21 de noviembre, se hizo realidad gracias a voluntarios y patrocinadores del Distrito Senatorial 35° y el área circundante, incluyendo: la Concejala de Lawndale, Pat Kearney, las Concejalas de Gardena, Paulette Francis y Wanda Love, la Concejala de Torrance, Bridgett Lewis, U.S.Vets Inglewood, la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, Phillips 66 Black Employee Network, Torrance Refinery, AAA, Republic Services, Starbucks, Enterprise, Departamento de Libertad Condicional del Condado de LA, Hermandad Alpha Kappa Alpha, Capítulo Sigma Pi Omega, Zeta Phi Beta, Stiiizy, Crystal Stairs, Let's Be Whole, Asociación Nacional de Mujeres Universitarias e Instituto AMAAD.

“El Día de Acción de Gracias es un momento para reflexionar sobre las cosas por las que estamos más agradecidos en la vida. Gracias nuevamente a todos los participantes que vinieron y a El Camino College por organizar nuestro evento este año”, dijo Bradford.
