SACRAMENTO ­– Last Friday Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 343, by Senator Steven Bradford (D–Gardena), which provides an immediate income tax exclusion for payments received by Carson residents as part of a major pollution cleanup effort ongoing in the Carousel neighborhood.

SACRAMENTO ­– On Sunday Governor Brown signed Senate Bill 1232 into law. This bill, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) and sponsored by Californians for Safety and Justice, increases the age of eligibility for a young person who has been a victim of a crime to apply for compensation from the California Victim Compensation Board.

SACRAMENTO ­– On Sunday Governor Brown signed SB 1412 into law. The bill, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), clarifies what information employers may use when screening job applicants. SB 1412 continues the progress that the Legislature and Governor Brown began last year to provide formerly-incarcerated Californians with genuine opportunities to rebuild their lives.

SACRAMENTO ­– Late yesterday, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr signed Senate Bill 1294, the California Cannabis Equity Act, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena).  This groundbreaking bill, aimed at reversing some of the damaging impacts cannabis prohibition has had on individuals from disadvantaged communities, is the first social equity cannabis measure in the United States.

SACRAMENTO ­– Late last week, Senate Bill 1294, the California Cannabis Equity Act was approved by the Legislature with strong bi-partisan support and is now on its way to Governor Brown’s desk, where he will take final action on all bills of his last legislative session in office. This bill, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), is the first of its kind, recognizing the damaging impacts cannabis prohibition has had on disadvantaged communities and in particular, communities of color.

SACRAMENTO ­– Late Friday evening, Assembly Bill 987, authored by Assemblywoman Kamlager-Dove and Senator Steven Bradford, was approved by both houses of the Legislature with overwhelming support and awaits the Governor’s final approval to be signed into law.  This bill will help streamline the process in which the new, Los Angeles Clippers arena and the larger sports and entertainment project, can be built in the City of Inglewood.

SACRAMENTO ­– Late yesterday, Senate Bill 1135 was approved on the Senate Floor with bi-partisan support. This bill, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), will preserve the Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) program in California law, while increasing the discount families may receive through the program, from 12 percent to 18 percent.

SACRAMENTO ­– This week, Senate Bill 1294, the Cannabis Collaboration and Inclusion Act, was approved on the Senate Floor. This bill, authored by Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena), will guide the formation and development of California’s first statewide cannabis equity program, while supporting local jurisdictions such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland and Sacramento that have established local equity programs.

SACRAMENTO ­– Yesterday afternoon, Governor Jerry Brown announced his appointment of Debbie Lumpkin of Los Angeles, as Deputy Inspector General for Diversity and Small Business Development in the Office of Audits and Investigations, at the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). The Office of Audits and Investigation is responsible for services that assist management in accomplishing Caltrans’ objectives, setting priorities and improving accountability.
