Senator Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) has introduced Senate Bill 343, to provide an exclusion from state income tax for residents of a housing development known as the Carousel Tract in Carson, California.

In the 1960’s, an industrial property was sold by the Shell Corporation to the Barclay Hollander Curci Corporation to create a housing development of 285 homes in the city of Carson.  In 2016 workers began to remove contaminated soil left buried under residential property in the Carousel neighborhood.

My condolences and sympathy are extended to the families of Marquintan Sandlin and Kisha Michael in recognition of the loss of their loved ones. 
 
Last week a statement was issued by my office that did not take into consideration that the officers involved in the incident were immediately placed on leave and never returned to work. It also did not acknowledge the Mayor’s press conference within days of the February 2016 tragedy where he gave a synopsis of what was known about the shooting at the time.

On June 7 the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) granted initial accreditation status to Compton Community College during its June 7, 2017 meeting.

“Interim accreditation is an important milestone toward full accreditation of Compton College. I applaud the efforts of Compton College President, Keith Curry, who led the college through the rigorous process,” said Bradford.

Sacramento (CA) – The California Legislative Black Caucus, California Latino Legislative Caucus, California Legislative Women’s Caucus, and California Asian Pacific Islander Caucus, have expressed strong concern over the technology industry’s lack of diversity in their board, management, and technical roles. Although a few companies have made attempts to address the lack of diversity in Silicon Valley, the efforts currently put forth in the industry leave much to be desired.

Sacramento – The California Senate approved SB 620 (Bradford) on a vote of 22-14 to allow a court, in the interest of justice, to use judicial discretion when applying a sentence enhancement for using or discharging a firearm, consistent with other enhancements.
